Happy Birthday Rob!

Yesterday was October 31 … a North American (and other parts of the world too) tradition where children, and some adults too, dress up and collect candy treats from neighbours.  It is a fun time for children.  It feels strange not to be home for Halloween.  Turkey does not do Halloween.  On Firday, two of our teammates, Frank and Matthew, donned Halloween masks at breakfast and passed out chocolate bars to everyone.  It was a fun way to bring the North American tradition to life for us here.  Matthew continued the fun at the TURKONFED offices.  Every time he heard the doorbell ring and we expected it was someone coming to see us, he would pull on the mask and hide at the door.  We had some fun, first with our DOT project assistant Tara and then with some of the TURKONFED people who had come to talk to us.

Following our Halloween fun and client meetings, we headed out on a very rainy Friday afternoon to take a call from the IBM Turkey offices.  While all of the other sub teams had already been to the IBM offices, this was our first visit there.  We were able to use the conference room and speaker phone facilities for a call to learn more about one of the best practices we are researching.
While there, Ceyhun, our IBM Turkey CSC Manager, was able to find the IGF representative for all of Turkey.  I have a new IGF resource for future!

Today is November 1st …. my son’s birthday.  Happy Birthday Rob!  I had an extra Turkish Tea in your honour today.

Also, today, according to Matthew’s pedometer we walked approximately 8 miles as we explored the Dolmabahce Palace and the Besiktas area.  The palace was completed in 1856 and had been the home of many Sultans prior to the foundation of the Republic when it was taken over as the home for Ataturk.  The décor was stunning especially the crystal staircase and the 5-ton chandelier in the Ambassadorial Hall.  Unfortunately interior photos were not allowed.  #ibmcsc turkey
